The Lancashire Science Festival team is looking for enthusiastic individuals to get involved with our seventh multi-award-winning festival. Our successful three-day event consistently attracts thousands of visitors from across the North West, with 2017 having a total reach of more than 17,000 visitors. Help us to amaze, inspire, enthuse and engage our future generations. By volunteering you will be contributing to our objective and helping keep our school and family programmes free and accessible to all.

Please note: only University of Central Lancashire students can apply due to the University insurance.

The deadline to apply to volunteer is Sunday 1 April.

  • Festival Assistant

    Festival Assistant

    From helping with event logistics to solving problems, you will experience how large scale events work and how customer service is key

    Festival Assistant

    Tasks in this role –

    *As a volunteer you will be setting up materials and equipment for the festival in various locations

    *We need your help with managing the school groups that attend the festival by delivering lunch, directing the group and dealing with lost property etc

    *Assisting with the social media to promote the festival

    *Responding to festival enquires and supporting attendees to the festival on the day

    *Taking part in delivering customer service at the festival as required

    How much time do I need to commit?

    We are looking for someone to be able to volunteer and commit to the full three days of the festival which are Thursday 28 June, Friday 29 June and Saturday 30 June. We will also require volunteers to attend training and briefing sessions. There may also be opportunities for additional volunteering in the run-up to the festival to help with preparatory activities. This will be nearer to the time of the event.

  • Control Centre Volunteer Assistant

    Control Centre Volunteer Assistant

    We are looking for someone who wants to be involved in the planning, delivery and operation of our Event Control Centre

    Control Centre Volunteer Assistant

    Tasks in this role –

    *As a volunteer you will be receiving incoming contact from the event team – via our radio network or phone system – and logging these appropriately on the system using full radio etiquette

    *We need your help with working through open issues during the event and making contact to get these resolved

    *Assisting with administrative elements of the control centre, such as radio issue, logging and general housekeeping

    *Escalating any issues that they feel is of high importance to the Event Control Manager

    *Assisting with general event operations at the festival if and when required

    How much time do I need to commit?

    We are looking for someone to be able to volunteer and commit to the full three days of the festival which are Thursday 28 June, Friday 29 June and Saturday 30 June. We will also require volunteers to attend training and briefing sessions. There may also be opportunities for additional volunteering in the run-up to the festival to help with preparatory activities. This will be nearer to the time of the event.

  • Festival Retail Assistant

    Festival Retail Assistant

    Our festival shop sells lots of awesome souvenirs to help our visitors remember their special visit. We are looking for friendly volunteers to help run our shop

    Festival Retail Assistant

    Tasks in this role –

    *As a volunteer you will be setting up products and equipment for the festival shop and taking down the shop after the event

    *We need your help with stocking the festival shop including sorting, pricing items and replenishing stock levels

    *Assisting with customers in the festival shop and responding to any queries and questions

    *Assisting with merchandising of the stock in the festival shop

    *Volunteering to work on the cash desk/till to take payment for items

    How much time do I need to commit?

    We are looking for someone to be able to volunteer and commit to the full three days of the festival which are Thursday 28 June, Friday 29 June and Saturday 30 July.

  • Festival School Assistant

    Festival School Assistant

    On each school day we have over 2,500 school students on campus. We need some enthusiastic volunteers to guide these groups and ensure they have the best day possible

    Festival School Assistant

    Tasks in this role –

    *As a volunteer you will be supporting Student Ambassadors in guiding school groups around the festival

    *Assisting with welcoming the school visitors to the festival

    *Responding to school visitor queries and providing information for the schools regarding their festival programme if required

    *Helping to encourage the teachers and students to participate and engage in the festival

    How much time do I need to commit?

     

    We are looking for someone to be able to volunteer and commit to two days of the festival which are Thursday 28 June and Friday 29 June. Further optional volunteering opportunity will be available on Saturday 30 June during the festival’s general public day. The role will be a Festival Assistant. This will be discussed at the selection event.

  • Welcome Check-in Assistant

    Welcome Check-in Assistant

    We want our visitors to have the best time possible, so we like to greet them with a huge smile and get them checked in efficiently and answer any questions they have

    Tasks in this role –

    *As a volunteer you will welcome festival visitors on the public day of the festival

    *We need your help with using iPads to check in pre-registered visitors

    *Helping to complete a form during the welcome for walk-up visitors

    *Assisting with providing festival guides and lanyards to visitors

    *Assisting with the social media to promote the festival

    *Responding to festival enquires and making recommendations to attendees

    How much time do I need to commit? 

    We are looking for someone to be able to volunteer and be able to commit to the public day of the festival which is Saturday 1 July. Further optional volunteering opportunities will be available on Thursday 28 June and Friday 29 June during the festival’s schools days. The role will be a Festival School Assistant. This will be discussed at the selection event.
